Found: seven infant mice, motherless Empty Found: seven infant mice, motherless

Post by renruttak Tue 25 Jul 2017, 7:48 pm

Today, I found seven baby mice in a cardboard box, but no mother. Their eyes aren't even open yet. Between myself, a friend of mine, and his mother, we would very much like to keep at least one of these babies alive. We've done some research on the internet on how to feed baby mice, so we know what we're doing there, but any other suggestions on what to do would be very much appreciated. Currently, we're using gloves to care for them, as they were wild mice. Can they be tested for diseases or anything else at such a young age? Or would that be too dangerous for them? What should we do?

note: they were found in my house. i didn't simply find them on the street or something and possibly take them away from a mother who had just gone off for a bit.

I've never had to care for wild mice, but we do have this sticky that has a lot of information on how to care for them: https://www.petmousefanciers.com/t4-wild-mouse-mice-care-and-information Hopefully someone more experienced with wild mice than I am will come along to help.

I don't think they can be tested for disease. In all the time I've been part of this forum, we've never seen a case of a disease carrying wild mouse and we see a lot of wild mice come thru here.

If you feel better with gloves, by all means use them. But I would feel quite safe caring for a wild mouse without gloves.

You are doing a wonderful thing caring for the babies. I'm sure you are very busy with them, but when you get a chance can we see photos? Love

excellent work, it's no small feat keeping orphans alive that young. it's not impossible.... but unfortunately, seldom successful. I wish you continued success!
