Re: HELP!!
I would do it tomorrow. The whole point of euthanasia is to spare your pet from any suffering. Its better to be a week too early than a minute too late. In my opinion, anyway.

Re: HELP!!
I'd try for a peaceful ending before she had a chance to experience more discomfort, also. I look back at my sick kitty and really hate that I made her wait so long.
I'm so sorry that you and Little Cow have to go through all of this. Good vibes to both of you.

Re: HELP!!
I just don't know! I'm not ready. It's such a horrible decision to make.

Re: HELP!!
I completely understand CP, and it's an awful weight to bare. Whatever you decide to do, we will be here to support you.
I can only give my opinion based on my own experience. I had a mouse who started to scratch her tumour and bleed. At first it was just a tiny bit of blood, but she was scratching a lot. From now on, I will always take that as a sign to end things. I thought she would be okay and I'd wait a few more days before deciding to euthanize. But I was wrong. When I woke in the morning I had a nasty shock, she had obviously bled to death it was a horrible thing to see, and I wished that I had decided to euthanize sooner, to save her from having to die like that. So I would choose sooner rather than later for Little Cow, but if you decide to wait - just be aware of what could happen.
Best of luck to you. We all know this is never an easy decision to make.

Re: HELP!!
Sigh. That sounds a lot like what's happening now. She hasn't made herself bleed since last night, but she's still going at it. I'm just hesitant because she's still so full of life! She's still acting like herself, playing and climbing and being annoying. It's almost like nothing is wrong. Isn't there something wrong about putting to sleep an animal who so clearly wants to live? I know that that could completely change within seven days. At the rate this tumor is growing, that's just how it is. With my dog, it was so clear when it was time for him to go, and it made it easier because there was just no other way. But with Cow, she's still so spry, so happy. It's what's making this so difficult.

Re: HELP!!
I'm very sorry for both of you, CP.
Your plight is a perfect example of the cruelty of mouse tumours.

Re: HELP!!
Her droppings have been very tiny this evening. Normal consistency, but just very, very small. Not that it matters at this point, but does that mean anything to anyone? I'm curious.

Re: HELP!!
That happened to Annie at the end. She's either eating less or her body is starting to shut down.

Re: HELP!!
Yeah, I thought as much. That makes sense.
I was pretty panicked earlier, but I've decided what to do. After all, Scaredy pretty much said it. Rather a week too early than a minute too late. The girls and I will spend tonight and tomorrow saying our goodbyes, and I'll call her doctor in the morning.

Sorry you had to make such a hard decision, she will feel a lot better though, you are saving her from suffering. I wish the best for both of you.CinnamonPearl wrote:Yeah, I thought as much. That makes sense.

Re: HELP!!
I canceled. Little Cow is still happy and bright-eyed. I just can't bring myself to put to sleep an animal who still wants to live. The vet said that she'll make time to do it tomorrow morning if I want to, so that gives me a little more leeway. I'll see what tomorrow brings and make a decision then.

Re: HELP!!
You have to do what you feel comfortable with. I certainly understand, though. Most of my pets that need help at the end are very sick. They can't breathe or they can walk or they are clearly in pain. Even then, it is difficult. My Lucy was different. Despite having a tumor the size of a walnut on her chest. The problem was she was still happy. She still wanted to run on her wheel, even though the tumor dragged and her skin was breaking down. I really struggled with it. I figured I had two choices. I could take her wheel away so she could live longer or I could put her to sleep so that her quality of life did not diminish. Even then the choice was not easy. I struggle. Every time. It is not an easy decision. The last thing any of us want is to pressure anyone into making a decision they aren't comfortable with. If she was in the wild, nature would run it's course and she would live out her days. So, if that's what you choose, there is nothing wrong with that.
