Are there any natural remedies for mites?
I'm almost certain it's mites now since both girls are also missing some fur behind the ears. However, if the ivermectin isn't at the store, it won't arrive in the mail until I'm already out of state and away from the girls. So, I was wondering if there's any natural remedies for mites, such as apple cider vinegar for rabbit mites. I'm hoping it'll prevent the mites from causing OCD scratching, at least until I can snag some ivermectin. It's not so bad yet - no serious scabs, and the only minimal hairloss - but who knows how much it can progress while I'm gone.
That said....any natural remedies?

Not that I know of. I wouldn't trust any of them to be reliable. You're only going to be out of state for three days, right? They should be perfectly fine until you return.

Re: Are there any natural remedies for mites?
Looks like tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, or cayenne pepper might work. I'd go for the vinegar, that sounds like it'd be safe to ingest if the mice accidentally groom it out of their fur. Avoid the pepper though; if they ingest that, that much capsaicin in such a little animal could easily prove fatal, or at least extremely painful. Even rubbing it on them will probably make their skin burn.

I have to advise against it, Petekey. I can't imagine these would work. Ivermectin is the safest way to go.

Ivermectin's definitely what you want, but I think he's just looking for something to contain the issue better while he's away.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe Petekey said they will only be away for three days. Mites aren't really an issue that needs to be contained. Most pet-type mice live with them just fine before we treat them. I know your girls are losing some fur, but three days won't make a difference.

Re: Are there any natural remedies for mites?
Both of you are very, very helpful. I was just eyeing something to contain it while I'm away, yes, but as it goes - better safe than sorry. It's true, I'll only be away for 3 days - I was just worried about how quickly it can spread, so I was looking for some easier options. I'll find ivermectin one way or another. Just worried about how long it'll take!

I said this on your other thread, but Amazon sells a relatively inexpensive bottle with free shipping on prime. It can be at your house within two days. The bottle is big enough so that it'll last years.

Definitely worth it - I'll order it either tomorrow, or when I get back from the trip. I was more worried about how long it'll take to ship than anything!

Re: Are there any natural remedies for mites?
Delaying treatment for three days until you get back will be fine. Your mice will just be a little itchy for a couple more days. Unfortunately, there aren't any natural treatments for mites. Anything you put on them, they will lick it off or have their mouse friend lick it off for them. They will do the same with the ivermectin. The minute you put it on, they will start licking it off *but* it's safe to ingest and it will continue to work internally as it does externally.

Re: Are there any natural remedies for mites?
Okay. I wasn't sure how serious mites are, how quick they get bad, or how treatment works, so forgive the many questions!

My sweet Tilly also has been scratching like crazy. Her little ears are starting to bleed. Can someone give me the exact name and dosage of what I need to order on Amazon?

There's actually a direct link to the right product on Amazon on this thread: http://www.petmousefanciers.com/t17-itching-hair-loss-and-parasites, and you'll find instructions on how to use it there too.
