Keeping Cool

Hey I was wondering how you guys kept your cages cool, and what is too hot for mice. I was to get two new girls this Saturday, but they both passed of heatstroke when the breeder's AC unit malfunctioned. 
I feel so bad, if I had gone to get them this past Saturday they would both be alive. 
I don't want something like that to happen to my mice so I want to have some backup plans on-hand just in case.
