Males or Females for beginner

I'm looking to get my first mouse/mice and was wondering what is best for a beginner? Should I get a male or 2-3 females? Does one smell more than the other? Is one easier to handle? Also I wanted to know where I can get the best toys. I was looking at Petco's website because their 20 gal tanks are only $25 right now and normally Petco/Petsmart doesn't have a very big variety for small pets like mice. Thanks for your help!

females females females! pet shop males tend to be grouchy even towards humans.
neither gender is more expensive. males smell more than females do. females tend to be gentler and easier to handle- but the difference is really only apparent when they're adults.
wooden parrot toys work just fine as toys! i also suggest investing in a flying saucer wheel.
