If you make sure it's secured in some way it should be ok. My tank hangs off about 2 inches over the left side and is very stable.

Yeah I hadn't thought of that actually.. that would be pretty bad, I didnt know if female mice would do that but I guess if theres 3 then I could imagine how they might gang up on one.
Yeah in that case I might just go for one cage, thanks.

Males are definitely more territorial but the girls can get nasty too under the right circumstances.
