Baby Squirrel

So, recently, we adopted a 5 week old squirrel. It fell from a tree and was doing very well for many days. I was imagining all of the fun things we'd do, I was looking into free-roam squirrel cages, food, etc. And then, he started to act weak. I don't know why, we'd been feeding him squirrel milk replacement and fresh veggies, but usually he wouldn't take the veggies. He passed away yesterday, and he was breathing sharply when he died. He just fell asleep. I don't know what could have happened.

True. I'm so sorry for your loss... But you gave him a chance at life, and that's what counts.

Too bad it had to end like that. I'm lucky enough to have a nice wildlife center not far from here, so whenever we find something that definitely needs help we can bring it there, especially since in my part of the U.S. at least it is illegal to have any wild animal in your possession without a permit. The top animals they take in are baby birds, baby rabbits, and baby squirrels/mice/ect. Fortunately We only had to bring one animal in though, a long eared owl that hit our window that was attacking a squirrel. It's so hard to love 'em all when the food chain takes a part in it. At least you kept him warm and safe for the time he got with you.
