furry toys to cuddle with?
Hi all,
I have a weaned hopper rescue female.
She is still in quarantine right now. I will put her with Winter when quarantine is over.
My question is - are furry/fuzzy toys ok?
I've never tried it with the others.
I happen to have an old dog show you that is made of rabbit fur, very soft and it doesn't shed. I'll try to figure out how to add a picture.
I would really like her to have something to cuddle with. But I'm also worried that there could be dangers. I've looked all over the web and can't find anything.
Thank you once again for any advice. This forum is wonderful!

Above is a link to the thread about making a fake friend out of felt, I am not sure about the rabbit fur, maybe someone with more experience will be able to weigh in on that.

Thank you very much for the response CanadianExport
I'm going to try making one. But I am still curious if we could use a toy for companionship.

Re: furry toys to cuddle with?
What exactly do you mean? Are you talking about replacing the companionship of another mouse with a fuzzy toy? I think it might help in the short term but if you have a female she will eventually need a mouse friend but I thought in your original post you mentioned eventually introducing her to another of your mice.
Sorry if I am misinterpreting what you are asking.
Also, hello fellow Washingtonian!

Fake friends are short term use for girls and company for boys only. They cannot replace the companionship other mice provide for girls.

Re: furry toys to cuddle with?
I would avoid other pet fur just in case the mice chewed it and swallowed it. You wouldn't want to have any issues with digesting/choking/blocking. Don't know that those are legitimate concerns, but I personally wouldn't do it.
The fake friend is a good idea for a snuggle partner until you can introduce her to Winter. She might also enjoy a little fleece blanket.

Re: furry toys to cuddle with?
She is going to be put with Winter. I just have to wait until quarantine is over. So far she is right as rain, but with Hope sick I want to be extra cautious.
Winter is going to love her. She is a young adult albino doe.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I already have sterilized fleece in there with her. It's in her nest and some other squares around the tank for her to build nests as she wants them. She really likes paper towel. So far she is still very skittish. Pretty much like all my feeder rescues. I think they must be handled roughly, or without care at some point, poor things!
Every day I leave my hand in the tanks for however long it takes. I just want them to see I'm personally no threat and they are safe. Makes cleaning VERY tough.
CanadianExport where abouts in Washington??
I'm in the everett area.
Have a great day everyone and thank you again.

Re: furry toys to cuddle with?
I think part of the problem with feeders is that they are never handled so they are SUPER skittish because of lack of any exposure to people or handling beyond having their tails grabbed.
I am in Lynnwood currently but will be moving to North Seattle in December (hopefully).
