Cage Upgrade?
Hey all,
I have 4 girls and I'm planning on upgrading their cage pretty soon. Right now they live in a 90 liter bin cage (I can't think of the exact dimensions off the top of my head, but it is above the minimum), but they're so active I want to give them more room to play. I'd prefer something glass so I don't have to worry about them chewing their way out anymore. I'd also like to go the DIY route. I know Petco is doing their sale right now but I'm feeling pretty eh about that. Any ideas or pictures for inspiration?

A glass aquarium makes a great habitat for mice. 15gal is the minimum for four girls, but so long as they're all tame, you can really go as big as you want. A 29gal makes a nice size. It's the minimum floor space for five mice, and you can use the extra height for a second floor or something. If you want to go the DIY route, you can always look up how to set up a glass tank yourself. I'm pretty sure it isn't too hard. In fact, I could be wrong, but there might even be an article on it somewhere around here.

I have 5 girls in a 20 gallon aquarium. It's a nice size, I can fit in a good amount of toys and hang fun stuff from the lid. You can get a nice aquarium for cheap at Petco until May 7th. They have their dollar per gallon sale, so you can get a 20g long aquarium for 20 dollars. You would also have to get a screen cover and screen clips... but it's still a good deal and an excellent habitat for your mice.
Aquariums really are the safest way to house mice. Also, the plastic in bin cages tends to start smelling after a while. I know you aren't super excited about the Petco sale, but that's my best advice

As other have said, glass tanks really are the best solution. Tanks are easy to clean (glass doesn't absorb odor), make it easy to see your mice and offer lots of options for decorating. I had 4 ladies in a 29g with a hinged screen lid and loved the extra height for adding climbing decor.
The subsequent colony of 5 ladies were very happy in a 20L with that handy hinged screen lid (20L and 29g have the same footprint but the 29g is 6" taller).
