Vibactra for diarrhea? Empty Vibactra for diarrhea?

Post by Mousetropolis Fri 14 Apr 2017, 9:41 pm

Hey, guys. I noticed a few minutes ago that Munster has a bit of diarrhea. After I cleaned up the mess, I gave her some oatmeal and fresh water, hopefully she starts feeling better. I have no idea what may have caused it, they're on the same food they've been on since I first got them and their tank was just recently cleaned. I don't feed them fruits and veggies too often because I know too much is bad for them. I did some googling, and found some information on antibacterial remedies for them. I saw some people talking about Baytril, but I can't find that where I'm at. I did find a similar product called Vibactra, though. It's supposed to be an all natural antibiotic, and safe for anything from a mouse to a horse. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? Does it work? Munster's still acting perfectly normal, so I'm hoping she might have just eaten too many treats and will start to feel better on her own, but if anyone knows anything about Vibactra, I might order some to have on hand anyhow.

I'm not familiar with that product.  Baytril is by prescription only, so you would need to see a vet in order to get that.  Occasional diarrhea/loose stool is not uncommon with mice.  If it is persistent, you could try Benebac- it's a probiotic. If that doesn't work, then it's time to see a vet as it may be an intestinal infection. But most often it's just something they ate or simply an imbalance in the gut. The main concern with diarrhea is dehydration. So, as long as they are eating/drinking and acting normal... there is no need to worry just yet.

Hey, Scaredy. I didn't know Baytril was prescription only, but the vet I take my rabbits to also takes mice, so if need be, I can take her there. She still seems to be acting like herself, I'm watching her take a jog on her saucer now. I just like to be prepared for things, just in case it's something worse. I'll definitely look into Benebac- thanks for the link! It seems handy, and I'll remember it if my hammy or bunnies end up needing it.
