Coconut Water? Empty Coconut Water?

Post by ChaoSile Sat 21 May 2016, 3:47 pm

I love sharing my food with my mice, and I just read that they can have coconut. Does this mean they can also have coconut water? I get the Zico brand, which has no added preservatives or sugars. It's just 100% pure coconut water.

Yep, they can have a little bit of that as a treat.  Not that you would do this, but I have to make sure that everyone reading this knows to never put anything but water in their water bottle though.

It's cute, all my mice and the hamsters *love* coconut!  I got a bag of coconut flakes for them... And I was surprised to discover that they preferred it to mealworms.

It has a fair amount of sugar. I wouldn't give them very much very often. Liquid sugar goes straight into the blood.

You also don't want them to get used to the idea that there is a better water out there if they just wait.

I really doubt that they would dehydrate themselves if they were thirsty, in the hopes of getting coconut water instead... If you're thirsty it's basic instinct that tells your body to drink. They're not stupid Smile

My mice love coconut too. I've never thought to offer them a taste of the water. Usually I drink that myself and save the rest of the coconut for the crabs and mice. Ear wiggle

Thanks for the new treat idea! Its been months and months of trying different treats, and right now I think cherrios are tied with pumpkin seeds. For some reason I'd never really considerd coconut, so of course I'll give it a go. Sorry I didn't really have much to contribute. Wink Nothing to Add

Oh yes, my girls love cheerios and pumpkin seeds too. They also go crazy for pine nuts and dried apple pieces Smile I've given them coconut before and they weren't interested Laughing
