Appox. 5 day old baby mouse turning over to wildlife rehab -question
So today while sweeping my kitchen and laundry room, I found a baby mouse that I am guessing is around 5 days old. It was practically in the middle of the floor of the laundry area. At first I thought it was dead as it did not seem to be moving, I gently pushed it into the (clean) dustpan to pick it up and look at it and thats when I noticed movement. Im unsure how long it was on the floor for, but it appeared skinny. I went out and bought KMR and it got a milk band after a few minutes of feeding. I used a moistened q-tip to stimulate it to poop/pee which it did. I then contacted my local wildlife rehab (which I did not even know existed here.) and unfortunately they closed in about 10 minutes but told me I could drop it off tomorrow morning. They recommended I do not continue the KMR and instead just keep it warm like I had been doing with the heating pad. I am worried about it making it through the night, especially without KMR? What are your thoughts? Will it be okay to go 12 more hours before I can get it into the rehab center?
Edit: Actually it will be more than 12 hours, more like 16 hours.

I don't have really have any experience with wild mice, but from what I've read, they can't go long without milk. I believe they are supposed to be fed every 2 hours. It very clearly says on the wild mouse care sticky that "They need milk, and they *will* die without it". I would continue it, not sure why they'd tell you to stop. That's like leaving a pet mouse without water overnight, it isn't good for their health, and they can die without access to water for long periods of time.

Thanks for the reply, AnonymousMouseOwner. Thats what I was thinking. I have never raised mice from babies before so I googled tons of info, watched youtube videos, etc. and everything I saw said to fee every couple hours which made me question how it would fare if I took the advice of the Rehab center. They said the KMR was not suitable for it since its different species and it may aspirate it. I did try to feed it again with the KMR but it would not take it. I will try once more in a bit.

Aww, it is so precious. I would keep trying to feed the baby every two hours. It definitely shouldn't go without nourishment.

I tried to get him to eat every hour since around 6pm but he wouldnt take it. I went to bed at midnight and tried a couple more times throughout the night. Finally I was just able to get him to eat at 9:30am and he will be on his way to the rehab center in about 25 minutes. I will be so happy when he is in the hands of the professionals. He was so cute after his feeding this morning -he actually was wiping his face with his paws after I put him down in his enclosure.

You did a very good thing for the baby mouse. Taking care of him wonderfully till you could get him to the rehab place. I love when rodents clean their faces, adorable!
