Peanuts are only an issue if you have a mouse who's allergic, I agree. Since they're a very common allergenic, it's common practice to pick them out but not necessary. Sunflower seeds, on the other hand, are very fatty and hardly nutritious at all for mice. Especially since they're fan favorites for mice, picking them out is the best way to ensure they're getting optimal nutrition from their base mix. Allergies aren't the only concern with those. If you don't like picking things out of a mix, you can always switch to Vitakraft; it has no ingredients that need to be removed.

What specific signs do you look for? Thanks allot this will hopefully save me allot of time

Usually allergies in mice appear as hot spots, which are like sores on their back, and with fur loss.
