How many mice?

I have a cage that is 2503 square inches? How many mice may I get? I want a big pack! Also, male or female?

If that measurement is correct, that is a HUGE cage. Just a 40 gallon (about 650 square inches), is quite large for mice. Mice don't usually do well in extremely large spaces. I would recommend a 10 or 20 gallon tank to start off with, then maybe you can move them up to a larger space gradually. I really wouldn't suggest something that large though, as that sounds massive. What are the dimensions?

Males cannot live together, if you were to get multiple male mice, you would have to have a separate cage for each of them, as they will usually fight to the death if housed together. If you want a group, definitely get females. Females are very social and must have mousey friends.

I would not suggest a group larger than 8 mice, as the more mice you have, the more likely it is for them to split up into separate groups and fight. Groups of 3-5 seem to be a lot more manageable.
