What would you do? (An update on Garcia)
I called the store today and the only thing they could say was that she was fine, still healthy, and couldn't be released till Monday when the manger approves it.
...But they couldn't say what was wrong. Why? Because they claimed there were no symptoms being shown since the day she got there. I'm not even sure if they took her to the vet.
I kind of feared this would happen, since she concealed her symptoms at times, but for them not to notice anything for a week seems off. Is it even possible that the symptoms just up and disappeared on such short notice? If so, how? Does that indicate an allergy?
So...what should I do? Obviously I can't introduce her directly to Graham when she gets home, because they didn't treat her for anything. How long should I supervise to see if the symptoms are really gone, or if they were just unobservant? Should I repeat the quarantine, or take her to my own vet?
I'll be bringing the high quality photographs of her symptoms to show them when I pick her up. I expect some sort of explanation as to how they just miraculously disappeared upon her arrival. Sigh.

I'm not sure what I would do. I would worry they were overlooking her symptoms but I suppose it could have been an allergy to something in your setup? Maybe ask how they have her setup so you can compare it to how you had yours? Can you ask if she's seen their vet yet? I would definitely repeat quarantine. It sucks but better safe than sorry. If symptoms return when you have her back it may be better to talk to your vet about it.

Thanks! I'll repeat quarantine and keep an eye on it. Already changed the bedding to something paper for when she gets here...she has two wood toys and the rest cardboard and plastic. No allergens in the food, so should I try removing wood too? Having two mice allergic to wood would definitely be a trip, but at least it's nothing additional that I have to avoid.
If symptoms return after all these precautions I will have her see my own vet. I'll post some pictures when she's home!

And Petco proves themselves to be incompetent once again! I'd just get her home and take her to your own vet. Petco's not gonna do anything for the animals they sell as food.

That store doesn't sell live feeders. Thank god.
I did find out more info when we picked her up! Their vet did look at her while they were checking in just in case. Basically, what they could tell us was that one eye had been more watery than the other, but had improved in their care and hadn't been red. They believe it's an allergy of some sort and gave a renewed warranty just in case we find that it isn't. We were advised to change to a different bedding and cancel out toys and the like. I guess the person who answered the phone didn't know about the situation.
One of the employees also noted that watery eyes are possibly just 'her' but that if the redness returned to have her checked again. This was from her rat experience though so I can't say if it'll apply to mice.
Regardless, she does look better and I'm not as disappointed as I thought I'd be!

Alright, suppose I stand corrected for the time being. X3 Still don't trust those guys, but at least they didn't mess this one up.

For now, anyways! I'll be keeping a close eye on it but I'm hoping it won't be returning any time soon. I want these mice introduced already.
...I also dont want a mouse with another wood allergy, so it better be the bedding. One is enough.

She's been settling in well! They gave me some food to transition her over with but she was pretty happy to get rid of pet store food and start crunching on dried flowers and oats, so I guess that was useless. I'll keep that in mind.
So far lots of wheel running and snacking. She seems happy to be home, active, playful. Her eyes aren't even watery! It had become a constant by the time she'd seen the vet so fingers crossed it was just an allergy that's been solved. I can't wait to be able to handle her tomorrow. I missed her energy. Grahams always been so calm (despite ya know, kicking all her food out of her dish with gusto the second it gets in the cage), which I adore, but I also love energetic mice. They're so entertaining.
But I'm rambling. I'm just excited to have her back! Pictures tomorrow.

Transitioning is just as much for protecting a mouse's tummy as it is convincing them to eat a new food! My mice will usually accept new foods readily, but I like to do ot anyway. For safety! ^w^

I can't wait for pictures! Did Garcia's coat change dramatically while away? Glad to hear she appears well, fingers crossed she stays that way!

Not really! It looks a bit darker in the brindle spots she did have, but that's about it. She is bigger, though. I wonder if she's lightly marked or merely taking more time to change? Either way, she's adorable.
