DIY Jute Toy Success!
I wanted to share this just because it made me happy-- my girls have taken to chewing at the twine and board that spans the gaps in their cage. I didn't want them to escape and it was clear they were bored, so I just took some jute and rolled it into little yarn balls. The girls (especially the chewer, Daphne) have already carried their new toys off to destroy. I think I can call that a success!
I think in going to do this a lot more often, it's cheap and fun for the meeces. I think next time I might think about using seed packets in the middle or tiny bits of peanut butter on the jute. Make it even more attractive?
Anyway, I'm happy, the girls are happy, Kalypso is napping.. as always. Looking forward to summer so I can spend more time goofing off with them.

Sounds great except skip the peanut butter,it's an allergen for mice. Mice love to play, that's for sure!

Really? Like for all mice? My mice have never shown reactions to peanuts, unfortunately they're in a lot of different mouse foods and they haven't shown symptoms.. I'll skip it in case though!scaredymouse wrote:skip the peanut butter,it's an allergen for mice

It can make them itchy and cause scratching that can lead to ocd. It's a potential allergen. Better safe than sorry, if avoidable. They can have all the other nuts though, so maybe almond or cashew butter if you want.
