I would like to purchase a fancy mouse for my 8yr daughter. I live in the SF Bay Area. Can anyone suggest a good breeder

I'm afraid I don't know any breeders, but I have to ask. Will the mouse be solely the pet of your daughter? Because for an eight year old child, that's a lot of work and responsibility. Mice require a lot of work and are by no means easy to care for. They need weekly cleanings, toys to be built for them regularly, and dealing with their plethora of common health problems like obsessive compulsive disorder and tumors is no easy task. Giving a living animal to a small child may not be the best idea.

I checked a bit for you and I don't see any mouse breeders in your area.  I'll check again when I get to a computer.

Oh okay! I'm glad to hear that. Hopefully someone will know a good breeder for you.

Sorry, in some areas it's so hard to find fancy mice breeders, probably because they aren't a super popular pet. There are none in my area either, and my local shelter does not accept animals smaller than a cat. I wish you luck though! Maybe someone in your area can help you more Smile. If not, I'd still consider a small local pet store, if you can find one.

Well, I'm at a computer now but i was unable to find any breeders anywhere near you.  There are a couple in soCal but that's it.  Sorry Sad

edit: I wanted to add that pet shop mice still make lovely pets. I've got my newest addition, Jellybean, crawling on me and I had to come edit my post! Jellybean was in the feeder bin at Petco. She was young and beautiful and so gentle. She required no taming at all, she's the sweetest mouse I've ever had. There are all kinds of reasons why i hate feeder bins, ethics/health/etc, but at the end of the day, the fact is that i have gotten three mice from the feeder bin and all three are sweet and healthy. If you choose to get one from the pet store, let us know and we can help you select a healthy one.

You could try asking on the fancy mice breeders forum? I tried a while ago but I guess there were none in my area as I got no response.

I could never find any either! There were some up for adoption on Craigslist last I checked - maybe you can see if they're still available!
