Advice please mother Mouse looking tired

Hi I’m in need of some advice.

My mouse pikachu had an unexpected litter on the 11th May, I got her as she was being bullied by the other female mice, she’s really lovely.

The last day or two she had been spending quite abit of time outside of the nest. She doesn’t seem herself and seems off, very quite and looks very tired. I’m quite worried about her and the babies

I’m wondering if there’s anything I could feed her to pick her up. When my dogs been off in the past I give her cooked rice, chicken and salmon and always helps her (she’s 14) so I’m wondering if there’s something similar for mice?

She’s been eating a mixture of fresh vegetables and pre packaged mouse food, she had chicken for the first time and really enjoyed it but I’m worried it’s not agreed with her

She’s also put a lot of the soft paper bedding I put in for her in the nest and the outside of it, then she’s mixed it in with the straw and normal bedding so she’s got a big mass in front of her bed, it seems to get bigger every day.

Lethargy can be a symptom of many illnesses. How warm is the room? Do you know if there were any complications during birth?

Diet could also be a factor—if the main mix isn’t great there may be issues with getting enough of her own nutrition in addition to giving the pups milk. The best way to go about this is to feed a rat/mouse pellet for a stable source of vitamins in addition to a seed mix for variety. This article goes more in detail:

That rice mix you mentioned may be nice for her. I’m pretty sure salmon is safe and I know chicken and cooked rice are safe so if you want to feed her a teaspoon or so of that once a week or so you can. Veggies rich in calcium and other micros, such as kale, collard greens, broccoli, and spinach, are also great options for supplementation.

Thank you for your reply, the room is very warm to be honest as we’re having the hottest days of the year here in the uk and we’ve got all the windows open trying to cool it down, is there any thing else that may help her? I’ll bring a fan down to cool it too. I’ve rang the vets for a video consultation so they can have a look at her too but that’s not until later. She seemed fine after the birth and she’s been very friendly and busy but has been different since yesterday.

Anything over about 26C can put your mouse at risk of heat stroke/exhaustion. To help combat this, you can freeze ceramics/stones and add them to the cage. Frozen pieces of fruit/veg can also make for fun treats.

For the fan, that would be great to provide—just be sure the fan isn’t pointing directly at the cage or it can cool the cage too much.
