Good chew sticks?
Hi! I'm looking for some good, cheaper chew sticks for my two female mice. Does anybody have any suggestions? My friend gave me some chew sticks from PetSmart that her hamsters didn't like, but my mice didn't like them, either. Thanks!

Hello!
Dedicated chew toys actually aren't really necessary for mice. They'll get a lot of tooth wear from the seeds and pellets in their diet. But, I have found my mice love chewing cardboard--I'll place boxes and such under the bedding to encourage burrowing and they'll have a whole side shredded by the time I clean the cage! Hay-based toys have also been a favorite.

Apple Orchard Sticks are my girls favorite! They’re for any small rodents. Along with cardboard like toilet paper rolls!

If you can find apple or other fruit trees safe from pesticides my girls love apple and pear branches! Other trees like oak are also safe, but I haven’t tried those out yet to see how they like them. Just make sure to bake the branches before putting them in

I found bamboo chew sticks recently and my mice loved them. I would get a variety pack and switch it up. They get board if you give them the same ones all the time. I would just avoid those ones with dye.

You could rub something that smells good on the wooden sticks you have, like a treat you give them or a fruit or vegetable. I have had two mice and a hamster, and none of them really liked the wooden blocks or sticks from pet stores.

Whimzees are vegan dog chews that do well with mice.
They can chew the wood of any tree they can eat the fruit of.
Willow is also popular. Cardboard works also.
Some mice won't be motivated to chew, but you can "flavour" wood by soaking it in boiling water with fruit pulp or juice. I mash a banana and boil my willow sticks with it for my rabbits, it should work for mice too.

My mice love Whimzees. Especially the little heghog one. They chew all the tips off.

Re: Good chew sticks?
Oh my goodness, I used to give that to my hamster and she went crazy for them! She'd drag the little toothbrushes off and burry them, and just bury the hedgehog whole. I didn't know mice could have those too! Should they be given in moderation, so it doesn't make the mouse overweight/sick, or is it okay to just let 'em have it?AmyLynn wrote:My mice love Whimzees. Re: Good chew sticks?
My mice also love whimzees as well. I usually keep one in the cage for as long as it is still salvageable, then let some time pass and give it to them again. My girls do seem to get bored of it after a while. I keep it in moderation like with treats, and switch it up like I do with toys.

Re: Good chew sticks?
I give my colonies a fresh whimzee on bedding change day every week (whimzee size depends on colony size)
