Eye Problems and Advice
Hello! I'm new to the forums and was hoping I could get some input. I have a 1 year old female lilac fancy mouse named Cinderblock, or "Cindy" for short. She seems to have some sort of fungal infection on her face and has been scratching quite a bit, her eyelid is completely closed and most of the fur on her face is gone. I have a vet appointment for her tomorrow and at her age I'm not sure if I should consider euthanasia. I really would prefer not to - she's active, eating, drinking and interacting with the other mice very well (I have 4 females in a 30 gallon setup who all get along). Has anyone else experienced this with their mice and did you have any success with treatment? I want to do what's best for her, of course.
Thank you and I hope to learn more from this community

Hello there!
Sorry to hear about your mouse.I have an amazing vet and he has treated some pretty awful condition that most vets would not have bothered with. When it comes to the face I have had amazing luck with antibiotics and other medicine that is normal given for eye infections. I had a mouse that even with the best care clawed her eye out and was still treated and survived to live a happy 9 months after that. If you're mouse is otherwise happy just be firm about wanting to treat the condition and your willingness to followup with care. Hang in there. A good vet can usually treat a fungle infection when the mouse is otherwise healthy. I use Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial All Animal Eye Wash until my animal can be seen. My vet gave it a thumbs up for regular use. It great when then get something on their eye. They also have a wound care spray. I have used both with my mice without problems. They are not however a replacement for vet care and I be would not use them with prescriptions unless advised to do so by your vet.
Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
