New Here
Hi everybody, I've been here a few days asking questions about mouse care for my two new boys. If you didn't see my first post, my boys were left with me for mouse sitting when my husbands co worker went on vacation. When they came back her husband said the mice couldn't come back and they told their daughters, who's mice they were that the mice died while they were away! I am really upset that they told them that, like we are bad animal caretakers, which is the complete opposite.
I've never had mice before and decided to join here so I can learn how to properly care for these cuties. I've already learned so much from asking questions. The info I was given when we were given the mice is so wrong. They had two male mice living in the same cage! I have had many other kinds of animals throughout my life. I have had a rabbit when I was a child, birds, dogs, cats, lizards and fish. Right now we have two cats, two dogs and three cockatiels. Plus the two mice. All our animals are rescues or were given to us. One of our cats we found in the middle of the street when he was about two days old. We had raised him bottle feeding him every two hours, giving him enemas when he had problems, tube feeding him when he stopped eating. We went above and beyond for him and I'm happy to say he's a happy healthy almost three year old now! One of our dogs and the birds were left with is when my husbands aunt and uncle moved to Costa Rica. Our other dog we adopted in 2005 when he was a puppy and he has epilepsy, which he developed in 2011. He is now almost blind and deaf but he is a great little dog and great with our almost two year old son. it took a long time for the doctors to get the medicine dosage right for him, for a couple years he was having a lot of seizures, but now it is controlled so he only has a seizure every once in a while. Our other cat was a feral cat we befriended and she is totally a housecat now. I'm pretty sure she was someone's car at some point because he warmed up relatively quickly.
I'm excited to learn more here and love seeing everybody's mice. Once I figure out how to post pictures I'll show you my boys. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you their names. Codo and Podo. Codo is brown and Podo is white(albino, with pink eyes). They were almost Wookie and Wampa but we decided on Codo and Podo because it's easier for my son to say and it's a reference to one of my favorite movies growing up.

Welcome!
I hope you can tell those two girls the truth someday. Lies are traumatic and cause emotional wounds.

Nice to have you!
As for images, just upload the pictures to an external image hosting site like imgur then use the image url to post it here.

Re: New Here
To be selfish, my computer can't see Imgur photos.
It's even easier to click on the "Host an image" button. Above the reply box, it's the first one on the left of the second row. It will tell you what to do. After you have selected your photos, remember to look for a button that says something like 'save' or 'post.' (I forget the exact wording.) That final step will post your photos onto the thread. I've missed that button a couple of times and the reply posted WITOUT the pictures, so I had to edit and do the photo thing again.

Welcome! How awful of the previous owners (or at least the dad). Luckily those boys were with someone so caring.
I like their names and can't wait to see pictures!

Welcome!
What a rotten man, telling his children horrible lies just to get rid of an inconvenience. I'm glad I'm not in your shoes, otherwise I'd be tempted to march down there and tell those girls the truth. But I'd have to restrain myself since it could result in the two boys being cared for improperly again.

Re: New Here
He shouldn't lie about that, but it is best that they ended up with you! I can't believe he lied though! I would be pretty upset as well, but I can see how you wouldn't want the girls to know that he just gave them away.

Re: New Here
I am using the cage they came in and a small tank I already have for right now. They will be in these until I can get 10 gallon tanks next pay. The cage they came in is a Kaytee critter trail cage that is definitely too small, it doesn't look much bigger than the 5 gallon tank I have.

Re: New Here
You can keep one in a 5 gal if needed, it just isn't a permanent choice. Critter trail cages have bad ventilation so if you have a 5 gal feel free to use it.

Re: New Here
Welcome, what a sad story that could have been for those two mice! I'm glad you've taken them in and are sorting out the best care you can for them - but its so sad that the Dad would lie to his children about them! I hate the 'disposable pet' thing that seems to be going on at the moment. No pet is disposable like that!
Anyway...I'm still glad you've taken them in!

Welcome! So glad that these mice will be properly cared for now. Do you know how old they are roughly?
By doing your research you're already a better owner, so these mice have really won the jackpot by ending up with you

Re: New Here
It is sad and wrong what that dad did, but it's best the boys are with you now. Imagine if they had stayed with the other family, being kept in the same cage, there was a very good possibility there would have been a tragic ending for one or both of the boys. The boys are lucky to have you!

Re: New Here
I think Petco is holding their $1-a-gallon tank sale now so two 10g tanks can be picked up for $20.

They are about 6 months old. They were two months old when they got them in March.
