Post by Everess Sun 28 Aug 2016, 8:49 pm

Hello!
I'm happily getting 3 female mouseys in 3 months! I am extremley excited ^-^ All three of them will be white, so I don't know how I will be able to tell them apart, I'm thinking Food Dye (the non chemical and non toxic kind) on their tails? Any idea's?
I have literally done so much research about mice before it was even confirmed that I would even get mice! I love them so much, I think I am obsessed.
My friend owns a male mousey boy and he is the sweetest thing ever! I started watching youtube videos, researching them, and soon I fell inlove. My dad finally let me get mice! I'm super excited and I dream about them every night lol
I've done most of my research here and youtube, and I finally registered here ^0^
I'll send pictures of my little fur-babies once they are home <3

Welcome everess! You can also use different colored sharpies on the base of their tails, but you'll likely figure out how to tell them apart with time. I hope three months will go quickly for you. Smile

Thanks for the welcomes ^-^ and I hope 3 months go really quickly too :3 but I'm pretty sure the more I obsess, the longer the days go by LOL.
I was thinking about sharpies, but one thing I am worried about, is the smell, I know sharpies have a strong scent, even to me, so I am afraid what mice will think about it.

HiĀ everessĀ  Mouse Wave welcome! So exciting getting 3 girls. Can't wait to see photos when you bring them home! Have you started getting their house ready yet? I bet once you get them, even though they will all be white, you will see some sort of difference so you can tell them apart. Have you thought of names yet?

No, not yet, it was just confirmed a few days ago, and I have been busy this weekend to buy stuff. I'm thinking of a 20 gallon tank for a cage, or maybe a bin cage? I bet they will all have differences, but I don't notice things so easily, so I'm still going to mark them, but maybe after a month or two, I'll be able to tell them apart more easily ^0^
I've been thinking of Marshmellow, Monty, & Maze, but I will know what to name them once I see their personalities Smile

Welcome!

How exciting that you're getting mice. The absolute best tank for three girls is a ten gallon aquarium with a metal screen top (with locking clips). You can't beat it. It's 100% escape proof and the absolute perfect size. Also, sharpie is a perfectly safe way to mark them to tell them apart, but eventually, odds are you wont even need it. Smile

Hey there!

You can use different colored Sharpies to mark their tails, as CinnamonPearp said. However after a while, chances are you'll be able to distinguish them at a glance. I can with my two albino girls.

Welcome! Ā

I got five white lab mice last year. It was very helpful that their first owner had put a spot of food colouring on each one's back. Ā When it grew out, I tried sharpies, but they ate it off every couple of days. Ā Luckily, I learned to tell them apart after a while. Ā Now I only have a problem telling the four remaining ones apart from long distances or in poor lighting.
