Kaytee Soft Granule
Curious about this bedding. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I can tell you it's safe! It's really weird, though. There are a lot of teeny tiny bits in there and my mice really liked the chew/eat them. I never did use it by itself as bedding, you would need so much of it. I used it more for my Syrian hamsters in their potty corner and in a jar (on it's side) to roll around in. I'll grab so pics later if I think of it... I have some. I like to plop a handful in a corner for my goobers to play with mostly but I don't like it as a bedding. mice love playing with textures... so I sometimes have a little hay corner, a granule corner, a cardboard corner. silly kids.

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
here's a couple of pics of it in use. i had tedward in the little critter keeper while i was cleaning his tank tonight. by the way, tedward hated it. he refused to pee in it. he peed on top of the little house. which says a lot, since he is the neatest mouse i've ever had. there is never any pee on anything except his wheel in his tank and the bedding of course. but never on any items.

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
He's adorable, I can't believe someone could just give him away like that. At least he's got a great home now. Lil chub.

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I didn't think it was worth making a new topic for, so why don't I just ask here while we are discussing kaytee bedding. Is the lavender scented bedding ok? I saw some cheap and was wondering if I should get it or not...

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I definitely wouldn't use a scented bedding. Smells irritate mouse noses, and we don't know how strong that smell is, so I wouldn't go near it if I were you. Anyone else know for sure?

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I actually have a bag of this sitting in my basement. I use it for my guinea pig. It definitely smells like lavender, unlike the "fresh linen" scented kaytee paper bedding that has no smell whatsoever (I mix this in with Walmart brand carefresh for my mouse's bedding area). I would say no to using that particular kind for mice.

Beddings with added fragrance (or baking soda) are not recommended. Very irritating to their delicate respiratory systems.

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I thought lavender was a natural mouse repellent? Or maybe I'm just confusing it with mint and catnip.

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I know that lavender gives some humans headaches, so imagine having a sensitive mousie nose. I love lavender though, helps me sleep

Re: Kaytee Soft Granule
I know this doesn't necessarily mean the same for mice, but here's what the ASPCA says about lavender for dogs, cats, and horses. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/lavender
