Safe DIY Supplies
I was thinking of making some DIY toys for my mouse and I was wondering if it would be okay to use solid pine wood to make them? Also, does anyone know of safe paints to use, and ways to make the toys water-proof?

Re: Safe DIY Supplies
I used to make all kinds of fun things for Mickey to climb on from popsicle sticks. The upside to that is they are cheap and you can always change things up and when the sticks get soiled, you can just toss them and make something new. Unfortunately I can't do that anymore for Mickey as he has an allergy to wood. Now all his stuff is plastic or ceramic.

I'm not sure if pine is safe (someone can help there I'm sure) but I've used a paint called "Plastikote" to protect wooden shelves from being peed on.
(Not sure how available it is outside the UK)

Here's a list of known safe wood from another post:
Safe paints would be veggie based food coloring or soy based non-toxic paint. Plastikote is also safe and great for protecting wood surfaces.

Re: Safe DIY Supplies
I'll put in a second recommendation for Plastikote! I used the clear version it to protect the wooden shelves in my cage and its working wonders (make sure its not the spray version though, apparently that's not as safe as the brush on fast dry enamel version - I think that's what it was called)
