Goodnight, Maier

Maier had gotten increasingly spacier yesterday. She looked so lost, I knew she couldn't hang on for that much longer.
I told her I would take care of her sister for her, and sometime overnight, she laid down outside of her nest like she'd done so many times this past week, and died.
I wasn't always a great owner -- sometimes my mental health would prevent me from regular handling, but I always did my best, and I hope that was enough. Maier loved her treats and climbing inside peoples hoodies. When I first got her, she was always eager to be held, chasing your hands around until she could climb on. She was the most energetic mouse I've owned. Seeing her the way she was at the end wasn't right.
I buried her in a little coffin today, right outside my window.

And the last picture I got of her. Happy Holidays, little one.

I'm so sorry, River. Maier was beautiful and loved, and her last picture is definitely a great one! I hope you and Graham are well.
