Vigilance Pays Off..

So maybe I'm over the top, but ever since I fell into the world of mice, I make sure to check the mouse cages every time I'm in a pet store. I mean, I look at all of the little critters, but the mice are my big priority for one reason: petstore suppliers suck.
I mean, I've seen so many problems in stores. I've literally had to report mice dying in the middle of the cages. (I stopped trusting that store long ago) They get their sexes mixed up, they get their tags mixed up, it's basically all Murphy's law. We all know this.
So my big story is that yesterday, I was checking in at my local Petco (the one I don't trust as far as I can throw) and I couldn't believe no one had reported it yet. One of the females was very obviously pregnant. I mean golfball pregnant. She was very active, but had separated herself from the other two and was nesting something fierce. Upon closer inspection, one of the mice was actually male.
I notified an employee and she came over to help pull the pregnant girl and the male from the cage, putting him in another cage and taking her to the back for maternity. Upon closer inspection, the second female was pregnant, too. Not as far along as the first, but definitely pregnant. I guess I'm not really shocked that it happened, I'm just shocked that none of the employees (who check in on the animals every open/close) had noticed an incredibly fat female. Anyway. That's my rant over. I'm just glad I could help them get the girls somewhere they could be more comfortable. I would have taken them, but 1) my parents would kill me and 2) I have zero experience. There's not much I could do besides give them personal space.
