Hi
Over the past few days I’ve noticed a scab on my male mouses back and today he’s grown a red spot on his neck. He isn’t acting any different and doesn’t seem to be in pain at the moment.
He is nearing 2 years old so I understand illnesses a likely but I’m just wondering what this is and if it’s painful for him?
I have looked everywhere and google is saying it’s mites, although there’s no way he’s contracted mites... unless there’s another way?
If anyone has any idea what this is or what I can do about it I would be grateful:))
Thanks

Have you recently got new bedding? Shocked It's possible mites could have come in in a bag of bedding - OR if you've switched him to a new type of bedding he hasn't been on before, he might have an allergy.

Similarly, have you switched up his food? It could, again, be an allergic reaction

Thanks for replying Smile
No, I haven’t changed his diet or bedding (not recently anyway).
Do you recommend me taking him to the vets?

I would treat for mites. It’s very common for them. Often they have them all along but don’t show signs until they become ill or age. If not mites, then something causing him to be itchy - allergy, too much protein, etc.  There’s a page here on the forum that goes over how to treat mites and lice, as well as about itchy mice in general.

No, they won’t pass to you. Smile

Okay so I put ivermectin on him (the recommended dose) and he seems to be itching more? Is this normal or is he allergic?
