Water bowl?

Water bowl?
Ok, so here's the deal. The only decent water bottle I'm familiar with is the Kaytee glass water bottle. This produces a problem, as it's very heavy. I've applied some indsustrial strength velcro to the bottle and cage to make it stay. The velcro is supposed to hold up to twenty pounds...but one night the velcro came off the bottle and the bottle fell, thankfully not on Olimar Well, then I used super glue to apply the velcro to the bottle. And now even the super glue is getting weak, and I don't want it to fall again. I've bought two other kinds of water bottles before and they just don't work (as in they don't let hardly any water out and the pets get stressed and start to panic). So, would it be ok to use a bowl for his water? I could keep it off the ground and on a handmade platform. Would this work?

Would you be able to get one of these? They hold my glass bottle perfectly.

I can't imagine a bowl would be fun to keep up with long-term, but I've only tried it with a wild mouse. Hopefully someone else has better advice about them!

It would have to wait until I go to PetSmart again, because I don't want to pay $6 for s&h for such a small item. But I think Petco has them and they have free shipping this week. I'll have to find out. Thanks! How do you attach them, though?

In the second picture it shows a piece that can be rotated and folded over the edge of the tank.

Re: Water bowl?
I use a small water bowl for Colin simply because he just can't seem to get the hang of using a bottle! He didn't have a bottle where we got him from and just couldn't work out how to get water from it so in the end we gave up with the bottle and just kept the bowl.
Its not too bad to clean out, I wash it daily when I change his water and give an extra good clean once a week when I do the rest of his house.
The only problem I've had with it is that we started off keeping it on the floor on his tank and he kept throwing his bedding in it, but he's been much better since I put in on a platform!

I have one of these too. Works great. Like Abeona, I've only ever tried a water bowl when caring for a wild mouse and boy did she muck that thing up quick!!

It is much, much better to spend the $$ and invest in a good water bottle - those last for years. Using a water bowl really is a last resort - it is just horribly unsanitary, and I don't recommend them whatsoever unless you have no choice.

Re: Water bowl?
Just thought I'd tell everyone that I switched him to the bowl. After I made the switch, I offered him water out of a bottle every morning and evening for about 4 days and he wouldn't take any, whereas I can see he's taken some water out of the bowl. He never seemed to get the hang of the bottle, and I think he actually prefers the bowl. I clean it out every day, and really the extra work isn't any trouble at all:)

Sounds like he's a neat boy. The wild girl that I cared for messed hers multiple times a day. I wonder why he never got the hang of the bottle.
