Another free graphics software like GIMP?

Does anyone know of a simple, free software programme similar to GIMP? Before I downloaded GIMP several months ago, I went through the tedious process of unchecking all of the additional spam that it automatically tries to bundle into the free version, so it would be pure.
It seemed to install just fine. The problem is that I can only use it for three minutes before my computer tells me that there is an "unusual" problem and needs to close GIMP. It gives me no choice at all but to accept. When I do, any work I started has been erased, so I have to start all over.. and only get three minutes before it's erased again. I'm used to slow and crappy, so I'd probably be okay if it saved my work and I had to re-open the proramme every three minutes. But with nothing saved, it is useless.

I have no experience, so I need something basic. For now, I just want to create slogans for tee shirts to sell on Zazzle. So something where I can choose font styles, letter sizes and spacing is all I need.

I use Pixlr. No idea if it'll work for what you need it for, bit it's free and you don't even have to download anything. lol It doesn't work on myChrome browser so I have to use Firefox. Scratch

Have you tried Paint.Net? I've never used it but have heard good things about it.

That's too bad, GIMP's my go-to image editor. As AMO mentioned, Paint.NET is another great program. I've used it many times before; it doesn't do quite as much as GIMP can, but it should work for what you're doing.

Pixlr could work too as abeona mentioned , but since it runs through the browser it sometimes chugs a bit.

Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling GIMP? Is your system 32 or 64-bit?

I use Pixlr as well, but the site is arguably a lot better than the app if it's available to you. It doesn't seem to lag for me. Depends on what format you use, I guess?
