You should always ask for what you want, even if it doesn't work out. I'm glad you tried because you would have regretted it if you didn't.
I wouldn't worry about any smell. He'll be funky for a couple weeks but then it will be fine. Maybe your teacher would be willing to care for him for you? Or like you said, maybe your neighbor could check on him. That way he doesn't have to go with you in the car.
But I agree, he shouldn't have any problems in the car. It's a long drive to my vet, they always fall asleep.

Aah man. >.< I say just wait to see what your dad says and then go from there. No need to call everything off now before you get his opinion. Maybe just reassure your mom and let her know that you want her to be comfortable, try and tell her what great pets mice make and that, and that this would make you happy but you want her to be happy too. But for now, try not to get upset and wait for your dad's decision. Deep breaths, okay? I promise one little mouse isn't gonna schism your family, whether he comes home with you or not.

My dad says yes. But they're both apparently scared and they feel guilted into it. My mom thinks I'll get bored of cleaning his cage, and that it'll smell, and that it's not healthy to have in my room and therefore it has to stay in a different room. She feels like she never wants to see it, and like I've guilted her into everything her whole life, and we have a terrible track record with pets, and that she already agreed to a cat and that I jut don't appreciate any of it. My dad apparently agrees to everything she says. And apparently my timing is the worst ever because my dad's on a business trip and my mom hates the thought of having to go into a pet store with me.
And now, instead of celebrating, I feel like a horrible person. I don't even know if I should take this guy or not now....
Okay, my mom just came and talked to me. "I won't pretend to ever like it, and don't expect me to ever love it, but if it will make you happy, which I think it would, then you can have him." She told me to not feel too too guilty, but that I was kinda guilting her into it, and that the cage better not stink and I'd better keep up with the cleaning of it or else he's outta here. I'm feeling a little better about all this now... even excited, if I dare. I'm a little scared, but basically... I'm getting what I've always wanted... and it is a pretty great feeling. *sigh* That was hard, and I still feel kinda bad, but... there you have it.
I CAN GET THE MOUSE!! (There, so I don't seem so downcast)
