Pumpkin and I
^.^;
Hi, I'm Degare.
I've had many animals in the past, from dogs to poultry to sugar gliders, lizards, and more.
I've had pet rats in the past, but my other half became allergic to rodents... So it became time to "downsize". Now I have an animal that's the size of a rat's head, and therefore produces a lot less allergy-stuff.
Her name is Pumpkin, and she stays in a little cage on my computer desk in my office, far from the bedroom. That being said, she doesn't actually spend a lot of time in her cage - she spends most of her day (about half, actually) with me.
I got her from Petco... From that horrible bin of "feeder mice" where they all run scared and try to bite.
She was doomed to be snake-food (mind you, I've no problems with snakes), but... She was a good one, I could tell.
I'll admit, I was a little horrified at the person checking me out, with her confused expression, "This is a pet?".
Anyhow, I got this skiddish and (according to the petco "small pet expert") bite-happy mouse home. Set up her little enclosure, and let her have about 4 hours to settle in... Then I tamed her.
Took about an hour.
After a day, I have no fear of her biting at all.
Today, she's my little hand and shoulder buddy.

What a pretty little lady! It's so hard to rescue just one from those bins at Petco -- I finally went to PetSmart for my last quintet of girls as their mice are set up solely to be sold as pets.

That's so exciting! She sounds like she's a quite friendly little lady

Welcome! Please have a look around the forum. There are many stickies at the top of each section with care information. Female mice need at least one companion, but do best with a group of 3 or more. Sounds like you picked a sweetheart.
