Lost mouse in apartment

Not sure which section I should post this in.
But I have a pet female mouse, snowy, sadly her cagemate recently died and I was going to buy a new one for her. But before I could I had to leave town for 4 days. I didn't have anyone to watch her so I put 2 water bottles and a bunch of food in her cage. When I came home she wasn't in her cage. I panicked and looked everyone and couldn't find her. I put food in a dish on the floor along with a dish of water but after 3 days it still hasn't been touched. There's no sign of her at all. No noises at night, no poop anywhere. She just disappeared. I'm going to keep the water & food out in case she comes back. I live in a 3rd story apartment so my hopes are that she crawled in the walls & went to another apartment. So my questions are:
Has this happened to anyone before?
What are the chances she's still alive?
If she crawled in the wall & died, will I smell anything?
How long does it take for a mouse to decompose?
Any other advice on the situation would be appreciated.

Hey there!
Um, I've had a wild mouse escape from my ten-gallon tank (my fault, as I was trying to hold her, I think), but she stayed in my room. She found a spot she liked in two of my dresser drawers and pooped and peed in them
, and made a nest, too. I think I also found lots of droppings in my closet, and I left some food out for her, but don't remember if she ate much or not. I attempted to lure her back to me with my male mouse, but, that didn't happen. I did eventually catch her again, as she was hanging around these certain areas.
Now, let me first say, I'm sorry you lost your mouse. Second, did you have a lid on her tank, or was she in a wire cage? If it was a wire cage, she probably escaped from between the bars. That's why I don't recommend those types of cages, as mice should be known for being escape artists. =P Anyways, that can't be helped now. Third, if she did die somewhere near or in your apartment, I wouldn't think you'd smell her...but, I really don't know. Fourth, I don't know how long it takes for them to decompose. My guess is possibly around two weeks??
By the way, mice don't drink much, so leaving her with one full water bottle would've been fine.
But was all her food gone when you got home?

No there was still a lot of food in her cage. Yes I do have a wire cage. I'll probably get an aquarium. Thanks. I hope she's okay. I haven't seen any signs of her. I've looked everything in my closet, drawers, cabinets, everywhere and no sign of her. Hopefully she comes back.

Wire cages are hotspots for mice getting lost. I've never had one; I only use aquariums with metal screen tops and locking clips. If your bars are even just slightly too wide, a mouse can slip out with ease, or a wild mouse can slip into the tank and wreck havoc. I hope your little girl comes back, but since you were gone for four days, it's hard to know how long she's been missing. 
Leave food and water out, check EVERY nook and cranny (including behind furniture, like your fridge), and see if you can find signs of her having chewed out of the apartment or such. With hope, she'll turn up.
Another thing I like to do for escape prevention is block the undersides of doors. I have plastic draft blockers on the undersides of all the doors in my bedroom. That way, even though it's practically impossible, if I do have a mouse escape, I'll know with absolute certainty what rooms of the house she's in and which she isn't. I never leave my mice alone for long enough for them to chew through it, but even if that happened, at least I'd see the chew damage and know to search the whole house.

My baby mice were very mischievous and somehow escaped 2 times. Each time I would listen for them and wait a couple minutes then make my move. I found them in my drawers both of the times. Hopefully that helps?

You might buy a CapTure humane mousetrap from Amazon. They are very easy to set up, and I caught the resident mouse in our storage room by putting on the butter inside. I will pray you catch your precious little mouse.
