Little Maier sneezes every 1-2 minutes. She has for exactly a month. She's seen a vet, only for me to get a pretty useless diagnosis. I changed the bedding on Saturday - how long should it take for sneezing to stop? I'm a very paranoid father, despite her healthiness otherwise.

Wait, so is the question how long it will take to stop if it was an allergy to the previous bedding? I'm no expert but I'd say it would be gone or significantly reduced in 1-2 weeks. Is she doing anything else or just sneezing? It could be a uri, or it could be an allergy to something else like food or a wooden toy.

I would have thought that sneezing would have slowed down by now if it was the bedding. What other kinds of things to you have in the tank? What are you feeding them?

It has slowed down. It used to be every 30 seconds, to close to two minutes - last time I checked, I counted to 4 and a half minutes befort she even made a very quiet sneeze! They have also gotten quieter, but I've been leaving her alone just in case it was stress, so I don't know if it fully stopped.

As far as toys go, there is a wooden house in the cage now that I think about it - the two story Petco hamster house thing? I assumed a allergy to it was unlikely. As far as feed, I've forgotten the mix name, but it's just the shabby one they came home with. I'm changing it as soon as the current food runs out. I didn't think food allergies caused sneezing - don't they just cause hot spots or itching?

I'd say its pretty reduced already, and its nearing one week. Tank cleaning day is in two days. So, I'll give it another week and bother them as little as possible - aside from tank cleanings and food/water change, just in case stress is a factor before I try other things.

There food allergies could be possible, yes, but don't those just cause itching problems?

http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/af/4d/c4/af4dc4d90df2b2f2c8ec52db995ec7d8.jpg this is the only house in the cage currently, since the elmers glue didn't hold the houses for longer than a day or two. Pretty sure its called the two story Petco hamster house? I thought an allergy to this would be pretty rare.

I agree that an allergy to that house is pretty unlikely. It's things like pinecones and cedar toys to watch out for. I would think that it would be more likely for food allergies to cause itching and hair loss, but sneezing is always a strong possibility for any type of allergy. If she's getting better now then it probably was just the bedding, good to hear she is improving. Smile

Yep! After almost a month of being anxious about her, I think this is helping out, even if it isn't a huge difference yet. Food will be changed soon!
