hamster or mouse Empty hamster or mouse

Post by alexru Tue 03 Mar 2020, 11:14 am

Hi!

i am trying to choose between a hamster (probably a winter white hybrid) or male mouse

i want to have a good connection with my new pet but have never had either

i understand the requirements for both and am willing to provide the absolute best environment for each. i also understand that each animal has their own personality

my big question is about male mouse scent marking and poop. will i contable get peed or pooped on while holding my mouse? from what i understand hamsters will occasionally poop on you but mouse and hamster poop is very insignificant. i am more worried about pee. will a male mouse pee on me and my bed/furniture constantly? i understand an accident happens so times but to what extent do they pee compared to hamsters??

feel free to correct me if i said something wrong i am just trying to get the best understand of each animal before i choose to adopt. if there is anything else you would like to add which would be beneficial to me choosing which animal, that would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Pooping is definitely the bigger issue for me; I don’t think I’ve had a girl pee on me before. Poop typically hardens pretty quickly anyways so it’s not a huge deal, you just have to keep on top off vacuuming. Hamsters/mice can control where they pee so unless you really spook them they’re unlikely to do so on you. Smile

Good to know! So would you consider them pretty similar in the poop machine department?

Thanks!

@alexru

Most of my mice have peed on me once or twice. My boys pee on me almost every time, Spider in particular - seems like he waits until I get him out to pee. Laughing

Mouse pee is also pretty poignant? I personally don't mind the smell (it's kind of a... nostalgic scent? for me?) but my roommates don't like it. The males are stinkier than the females. Mouse pee smells a little bit like old popcorn haha
