Diffuser and oils? Empty Diffuser and oils?

Post by BrendoniUrie Thu 05 Mar 2020, 10:38 pm

Hey so I have 3 female mice in my room, and due to some dry air I have an essential oil diffuser next to my bed. They are at the foot of my bed. I know that some scents naturally repel mice, but I was wondering if using them in the room would have a negative effect on them. Does anyone have any knowledge of this sort of thing with mice? I will be okay not using oils in it as I mainly need it to help moisten the air, but it would be nice to have them. I know changing scents constantly will stress mice out, do you think it would be okay to use just one for a long time then change it to another?

Thanks in advance for any advice or replies.

Diffuser and oils? Empty Re: Diffuser and oils?

Hi there.

I'm sorry to break the news to you but, you really can't use a difusser with essential oils and mice in the same room. Not without risking a respiratory issue which could lead to a URI. Mice are especially sensitive to eucalyptus and peppermint as they are used in mouse deterrent products.

Take a look at this thread. It will explain it best...

Essential Oil thread

You can use a regular humidifier or vaporizer. You don't need the essential for the moisture to help you breathe. Otherwise, move the mice to another room until you are feeling better. The dander on mice can actually make it harder for you to breathe.

Consider getting a True HEPA air purifier like the Honeywell HPA200 (100 or 300 are the same just 1 less or 1 more filter). I have one. It makes a huge difference in my sleep quality. Use it with a humidifier or vaporizer and you have the perfect combination for surviving allergies or other respiratory issues.

I hope you feel better.
