Send Mr. Bald Love
my dear little man has been battling penile prolapse. it has been put back in place, and came back out hours later. there seems to be no reason for this, so i’m starting to suspect a defect, which wouldn’t be good news…so wish him luck and send him love, please. i love this little mouse so much. he’s so special to me.

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
Poor little Mr. Bald. Of course I already love everybody's mousies , so I'll try to send some help too.
Is he in a hospital tank so you can better watch for evidence that he is able to urinate? Is he under veterinary care or home care?
If you didn't run across it already in a search for help, here's a link for rats in Mr. Bald's situation, from which you can click to a case history:
https://ratguide.com/health/reproductive/paraphimosis.php
I have heard of hemorrhoid cream being used for certain animals to shrink the troubled anatomy, but I do not know if it is safe on mice.
I hope you can get your little friend fixed up. Keep us updated.

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
thank you so much. <3
he is (very grumpily) in a hospital tank, currently very stinky with urine…and had his penis put back in today so he’s just a bit swollen and angry. he is under veterinary care, as try as I might i just couldn’t get his willy back in. he’s just too tiny! it happened twice and the vet says if it happens again we’ll be referred to another vet where surgery can be done to place a suture, holding it in place. i am so grateful. it’s a risky procedure i’m sure, but if it keeps happening then quality of life becomes a concern…and then you have to think about things i’d rather not think about yet. i love him!
i will certainly look into the cream, because the weekend is coming up and my beloved vet is closed so i’m a little worried lol.

Knock on wood, it’s still in! 24 hours good so far! We decided to confine him to a hospital tank this time, so he won’t over exert himself. Still don’t know what caused it exactly but fingers crossed it won’t be an issue anytime soon.

River: I got you a kind of sideways second medical opinion this morning.
While I was eating dollar store honey nut cereal rings for breakfast and reading from my book stack, I had "The Incredible Dr. Pol" on the telly (WHOOOooo! Triple tasking!), and the doctor took a phone call from somebody who had a duck with Mr. Bald's (now cured, we hope) prolapsified condition. Dr. Pol prescribed using hemorrhoid cream on the duck.

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
I appreciate both of you so much! Thankfully he’s still all good, and still grumpily confined to his hospital tank.
He has mites on top of this (not sure how related those can possibly be), and the vet said the fact that he was already on antibiotics to help the wounds from his scratching heal is what kept his weiner healthy during its…adventure. no infections or necrosis and his swelling is all but gone, so yay for that!
his follow up is wednesday, both to check up on those mites of his and to make sure he’s healing well from that prolapse. his skin is still weird to me ( his skin is very thick, but maybe he just scars bad) but everything else looks good!

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
So...happened again. At this point it feels like routine lol. We’re managing it with hemorrhoid cream and antibiotic ointment for now but on Wednesday he has an appointment to have it replaced and we’ll schedule his surgery. He’ll be altered while he’s under, even though he does fine with his neutered boyfriend I figure it’ll be nice to have females in the colony later so…if i have to risk it i might as well.

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
His surgery is Wednesday. All the way in Orlando for this specialist in small animal surgery! Well, it’s worth it for the peace of mind. There’s no guarantee and that’s enough to worry me endlessly, but it’s no small comfort. This guy just can’t catch a break. After he’s healed from surgery he will be placed with Goose and some does to live out the rest of his little life.
Otter is extremely aggressive by nature to every sort of creature and thing, which his breeder hates him for but I think he’s spunky. He’s a bachelor through and through.

I'm sure he'll do well in surgery and recuperate fast, keep us updated. I like feisty mice too!

Re: Send Mr. Bald Love
All good news! Well, complicated…but he’ll live out the rest of his life and is no pain, so I’ll count it as good.
The specialist is much more focused on rodents than my usual vet (and lives an hour and a half away, so we had a road trip), and immediately spotted the problem. Mr. Bald has a deformity. We suspected this but never actually saw it, assumed it was internal. Nope! His foreskin isn’t fully formed. A stitch would just cause infections because of the unusual shape of it, but luckily, his penis is remarkably healthy! It’s been out for weeks and should eventually just adhere and be fine. Most mice would have swelling or off color but he has none of that. The vet said he is likely in no pain at all. It was probably never fully sheathed on one side, but his constant bending over to scratch from our round of mites likely was enough to have it come out entirely. We just have to lube it up twice a day for life, but I will take that any day over a risky surgery on a tiny organ.
