Plants safe for mice? Empty Plants safe for mice?

Post by Fandomgirl2424 Tue 04 Sep 2018, 6:11 pm

Hello!

I'm Fandom. As of recent, the area I live in received a bad moth issue. Unfortunately, some also got into my bedroom. I know that moth balls are poisonous to pets and humans, so I won't use those. I found that sachets made from rosemary, thyme, cloves, lavender, or bay leaves are good deterrents. My question is: are any of these plants safe to use in the same room as my mice? Any assistance would be lovely!

Thyme was supposed to be ok:

but I am not sure about the rest. Maybe someone else will know?

I had a moth problems as well and I have 10 mice (12 at the time) I used Trichogramma to get rid of the problem. They did not bother my mice at all (as the super friendly people the sold them advised that they would not.) After 3 groups one every-other week they were done and no harm to my mice.

Bay leaves and cloves are supposedly mouse deterrents (not necessarily harmful, just not liked by sensitive noses) .... but I’ve read the same thing about mint leaves and that’s not true. So I’m not sure. There may be confusion between actual fresh/dried leaves and essential oils there. Essential oils are very concentrated, so there’s a big difference.

If you’re planning on just using fresh or dried in packets placed in the room *but not where the mice can get them* it really shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re talking about using essential oils in the same room, I would say no.

Thank you both! I'll definitely try each method, and hope one works for me. 😊
