Chicken flavored milk bones?
I fed my hamster, Cairdeus, chicken flavored milk bones as treats. She loved them, and it was hilarious just watching her pick the perfect one! She would pick one up, toss it over the edge of the container, and repeat.
Are these safe for mice?

Milkbones generally aren't the best for hamsters or mice as they contain a lot of meat by-products. Maybe try Whimzees instead? They can usually be found near the check out of most pet shops.

Aren't mice omnivores? I've never offered them but I'm curious as to why that's the ingredient that makes them bad.
I second whimzees, the mice love those!

I think they are. I guess it's just the by product part. I didn't notice anything particularly bad with feeding them to my hamster, but maybe this is a split opinion kind of thing.River wrote:Aren't mice omnivores? Re: Chicken flavored milk bones?
I think in moderation, milkbones would be fine for mice. One of my boys, Roan, absolutely LOVED small milkbones, and I'd give him some as a treat every once in a while. I didn't notice any really adverse effects. Of course, it shouldn't be a staple in their diet, but I don't think it's bad to give them as a treat.
That said, Whimzees are great, and pretty much every mouse I've owned has loved them! (There are a few exceptions, of course, since all mice have different tastes, but very few have ignored them!)

Mice are absolutely omnivores and do enjoy the odd mealworm or piece of boiled poultry. However, by-products themselves are something I generally avoid feeding whenever possible. "By-products" are just another word for "non-muscle animal parts" like bones, hooves, and various organs, which I wouldn't exactly feel comfortable feeding my mice. If you're fine with that though more power to you.
