Tank setup for lice treatment
Hello!
So poor little Colin has lice I've taken him to the vet (for a general check up - just in case!) and we have some treatment (Ivermectin, the Xeno-50 mini spot on treatment - I'm UK based) so hopefully we can stop it getting too bad!
However I forgot about asking the vet about what he can have in his cage.
What do you recommend? Obviously he'll need his food, water and wheel.
Can he have other toys so long as they've been frozen or is he confined to a few weeks without many toys? Normally he has a selection of wooden toys (inc. Popsicle stick structures) and cardboard (egg boxes and toilet roll tubes mainly) and also one of the no sew fleece cubes.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Tank setup for lice treatment
You can leave him all his things. Mice undergoing ivermectin treatment don't need any sort of special setups.

Re: Tank setup for lice treatment
Treating the mouse's environment is an abundance of caution, it isn't really necessary. If you use the ivermectin on Colin 6 times as recommended, any parasites not on his body will simply die without their food source.
If you would rather treat his environment, then wash all toys and spritz his bedding and tank cover with a fine mist of watered-down ivermectin.

Ah OK, thanks both, that makes sense!
I'm glad he can still enjoy everything as normal!

Re: Tank setup for lice treatment
Other than the lice he is very well, healthy and a good weight too
Currently he's enjoying throwing his paper bedding around. Presumably this serves some mousey purpose of his, but it just looks like hes having a good time making a mess to me! :-D

Re: Tank setup for lice treatment
While I do agree with what has been said in regards to your situation specifically, I would like to add that personally how I "treat" lice depends entirely on how many mice I have and the severity.
If I had more than one mouse (regardless of if they are in different tanks or not) I would be more inclined to treat the environment as well depending also on the severity.
