URI or crying in his sleep?
Good morning all,
Hope everyone and their mice are safe and well
Im seeking any advice regarding Hemmy. We’ve had him for two months, and there’s been about 3 times that he makes like this crying/whimpering noise in his sleep and only when he’s asleep. I’m very convinced maybe he’s dreaming? Or even having a bad dream? Does anyone have experience with noises only when their mouse is sleeping?
Today we heard him doing it around 5am. The thing is, he woke up as we checked on him and as he walked to his coconut hide he made a different noise. My partner think it’s was a clacking noise but I thought it was more of a chirp? He only did it for a few seconds as he woke up. We’ve been monitoring him and put him by our ears and we don’t hear anything. His eyes seem fine. He’s still playful and running around. If it was a URI would we hear the noise again today? I’m so nervous. We’re calling the vet today, but I know she left on medical leave so I’m scared she might not be back yet
Thanks everyone. Any advice will help. We have a humidifier, should I turn that on for now?

Re: URI or crying in his sleep?
That doesn't sound like a URI to me if you're not hearing it consistently; with a URI if you hold him up to your ear you'd likely hear strained breathing, not just when he's asleep.
Some mice are simply more vocal than others, and it seems very possible that that could extend to dreamtime as well. I wouldn't be worried based on this, though of course it's always good to keep an eye on it.

Re: URI or crying in his sleep?
Thank you so much for your response! I’ve been very anxious, but this definitely gives me some relief. When he made the other sound when he woke up, he just went to hide. But then after he kept wanting to play and we held him up to our ears and nothing out of the ordinary!
I hear you. I’ve seen lots of folks say mice are very vocal, but Hemmy doesn’t make much noise. So whenever I hear him make a noise I freak out! especisllt since I’m not used to it. But maybe now that he’s getting order he’s becoming more vocal?
Thank you again!!

You're very welcome!!
I know how it is when you first get a new animal - everything even the slightest bit out of the ordinary causes a panic.
If you have any more questions or concerns, you're welcome to ask the forum or me directly. Good luck with your little guy!

Thank you sooo much! I appreciate all the help I receive on this page. Hemmy hasn’t been making those noises in his sleep as much, so it’s been a relief! thankfully he’s been doing okay :’)
