60 gallon tank
I just found out my husbands uncle has a 60 gallon plexiglass tank he said we can have. Do you think it would be possible to put a divider in and have both mice in there. One on each side? If it would be possible, do they even make a screen lid for a tank that size? I would guess so because there are some big lizards who would need a big tank. If it is possible, would a 30 gallon be too much room for one mouse? Thanks guys!

Re: 60 gallon tank
So apparently a 60 gallon would be 40 x 16 inches, if you cut that down the middle that would be 20 x 16 which is almost the same floor space as a 20 gallon tank per mouse. Which would be a lovely size for the two boys.
The divider would need to be pretty sturdy so that they definitely won't be able to break into the other half somehow. That could end in a pretty nasty fight! Any idea how you'd make the divider? If you could find a way of making it work it sounds like a cool idea!

I was thinking maybe a piece of plexiglass cut to the dimensions of the tank and then attaching it with aquarium silicone if that is safe. I would have the hardware store cut me a piece of plexiglass. Unless someone has a better idea.

Re: 60 gallon tank
I have a divided tank. I had two robovorski hamsters in there together, then they started fighting. Since the tank was huge anyway, I just went to the hardware store and got a sheet of acrylic (plexiglass) and carefully measured it and cut it down. Since I did it at home, I cut it a little on the large side and then sanded it down carefully. It's a really tight fit. So much so that I have to sort of bang it in to fit. It's not going anywhere.
They make nice lids for that tank, i'm not sure if this is the exact one, but the hinge is nice:

Here's my tank, I made an acrylic shelf, too.

Thanks Scaredymouse. What did you use to cut the plexiglass?

Re: 60 gallon tank
There is a special tool to cut it by hand, costs about $5.00. It's is tedious, so you need to be careful and patient. It's not particularly difficult, though. You just drag it though the glass in the same spot, over and over and over. Once you get about 3/4 through, you just snap it and it breaks clean. I tried using other methods but this worked the best and was precise.
My tool looked just like this

If you're not handy, the hardware store will cut to your specifications. If you use aquarium safe silicon or any silicone to secure it, make sure to wait a few days for it to cure before putting mice in.

That sounds like a great and safe idea to me. Yes, the aquarium silicone is safe. Just be sure to allow the drying time stated on the tube of aquarium silicone.

That tank looks really nice! I love the shelf, what a great idea. And the little ramps are cute too.scaredymouse wrote:I have a divided tank.
