Look at the ingredients. Try to buy a kind that only has roasted peanuts. Some kind of oil should be ok too (it's usually palm oil). A little sea salt or low salt wouldn't be too bad but you can find unsalted kinds. Try to avoid added sugars, it's just not necessary. MaraNatha is a good brand (they also have a cashew butter and sesame seed). I also like Justin's .
Watch for allergies.
