Tail Rattling Empty Tail Rattling

Does anybody know what rattling the tail actually means. It takes place in both of my cages, and the mice seen to be getting along nicely in both cages. No squeeking or chasing in either cage.

It's usually a threat. "Back off" type of thing from an annoyed or angry mouse. They may not actually be directing it at each other, but instead may have perceived some other "threat." One of my mice occasionally does it if I come up to the tank too quick, but usually once I talk to her she stops like "Oh it's just you" and goes about her business. I did have one mouse, Hashbrown, that purposefully tail rattled at me for a while when I got in her tank. Eventually she got over it.
