Taming my little Steven
I've had Steven for about a week. He is learning that I bring yum yums, and he will hop into my hand now. I want to take him out of his cage to hold him, but I'm scared he will run away. How and when can I take him out? There's no mouse proof rooms in my house, I'm worried he would run off and hide somewhere.

The way i take my shy mice out for cleaning/playing is usually by holding a paper towel roll on the floor of their cage and waiting till they walk into it so i can lift it either into an open bin/bathtub. I find the bathtub to be quite good because they cant usually jump out and its a good place for you to bond/interact with them?
Hope that helps

Thank you, I think tomorrow I'll set up a play area in the tub. I can't wait

I also use a play bin for my mice. None of my girls have ever seemed to enjoy being held. They'd much rather run around and hop on and off of my hands/arms. I did have a boy mouse that enjoyed hanging out in my sleeve or (backwards) hood. But try the bin or other safe play space first, and as you work on taming him you'll find what will or won't work for him. You'll likely see a big improvement once you start working with him out of his cage. Most mice tame up faster when moved to a neutral play space.
