What does your mouse like to chew?

What kind of chews do your mice like best? Do they tend to like wood, or pumice, or other things like flavored chews?

My girls love paper straws. CallaLily made one thing or another with them, and I've included them in a lot of my MESs since then. I don't know what the appeal is, but they're always the first to be destroyed. Pardon

I discovered Mika needs more to chew when I accidentally dropped a tape measure in his cage... He went insane! He was having so much fun with it that I felt bad taking it away. I'm going to try making him a felt mousey friend that he can chew up. In the meantime, his new food dish is a cardboard box, and he's having a ball eating it.

Cardboard for sure has been a favorite thing to chew for all of my mice. Most have also like apple or willow sticks. Loofah is hit or miss. Usually it just gets peed on and needs to be chucked. Sisal or hemp twine get chewed up quick. Rattan or willow balls are destroyed in no time. Timothy Twists and Seagrass Twists have been mostly liked too, but I find I need to space them out because they seem to get bored of them after a while.

Seriously now, whenever I put one of those little fuzzy mouse-shaped cat toys in with Miss April, it HAD TO BE DESTROYED. UTTERLY AND COMPLETELY. STARTING NOW!!! First, off come those little felt eyespots -- so fast I couldn't even see her do it! She could rip off an eyespot while I was still holding the toy in my fingers! Then the nose went. And the ears. Then ... faux fur bits all over the tank ... little plastic bits all over the tank ... faux fur tail strip dragged into the sleeping box as a victor's trophy.

April was such a sweet and gentle little soul, yet she showed a ferocious intolerance when it came to those little fuzzy mice. But it would keep her busy for an afternoon or evening, and she knew not to eat the fur and plastic.

Living World corn husk chews are a big hit with my girls. They tear them up and use the remains as nesting most of the time. They’re really affordable too Smile

. Toilet paper tubes are popular as well.

Mickey isn't a big chewer. He will chew on paper towel rolls from time to time. I've tried other things, but they just sit there untouched. So I make sure he always has a dog biscuit to nibble on to keep his teeth in good shape Very Happy

My colonies can't have wood, as one has an allergy to most types. They like cardboard and egg carton material; paper shredding is a more 'favorite' hobby though. Graham isn't a huge chewer most of the time, but occasionally she'll have a change of heart and destroy anything she's given.

I haven't had enough time to figure the new girl out yet, though.

Most/all of my mice really weren't chewers (or at least not big ones). But Dani enjoys chewing on cardboard (toilet paper rolls to be precise) a bit. And they chew on colored woods more than non-colored woods, and sticks (particularly apple sticks was actually something they chewed on a whole lot). Lydia would chew the black rim on the tank top.
