Night light?

Night light?
Hi I'm considering getting a very dim red light for the near the mouse cage when I finally get some mice, so that I can see their night behaviour when I can't sleep (insomnia). Has anyone tried anything similar? Since red light is often used for nocturnal animals in zoos I figure it wouldn't bother mice at all.

Re: Night light?
I have a lantern hung on my ceiling that acts as a nightlight. Most people consider it pretty bright but my hamster doesn't mind it at all. My friend with mice uses something similar and they don't care. I think a red light or a normal night light would work just fine, although you'd be able to see the mousies better with a normal light. As long as it isn't glaring and there's an obvious difference between night and day, your mousies shouldn't mind it at all

Just be sure the light is dim—contrary to what some may say, mice can see red light just as well as we can (even though they can’t see the color red they have light receptors). Having a light that’s too bright can mess up their circadian rhythm, which can cause a host of other issues.

Thanks, and sure thing, if it's any brighter than pretty much the dimmest night light I can find I wouldn't be able to sleep at all!

Yes I am currently using one of the Kaytee bubble plug lites, they are fine for just a few minutes or so, but the batteries do not last long. I believe Kaytee have now a large plug in light fitting for their cages which has 5 colour changes in it.
