Keeping mice entertained

My mice usually have wooden toys - which I know I could've safely left in the cage while they're being treated for lice, but I decided not to, to be safe - so of course, I had to improvise and I'm thinking of giving them some of these household items to play with. *Disclaimer: I don't own any photos, so of course, credit to the photographers. I don't need to be gettin' sued.

Napkin holders - I can't find an 'exact' picture of how it looks; it's a metal structure, made up of two rings on each side to hold the napkins in the middle. Make sense? Would this be safe?

Office organizer - Something like this, but made up metal mesh; would this make for a good climbing toy? The piece I have is broken so I assume it's small enough for the cage. Keeping mice entertained Office-magazine-organizer-oi30609-by-organize-it-all

Coffee mug - No pictures needed - I reckon burying it under bedding and letting them have it would make it a lovely little house.

whatever this is called looks pretty fun,

And I have a very, very small terracotta pot. Like very small. My mice probably couldn't even fit in it, but I wonder what they'd do with it?

Anyone have any other ideas that are plastic/ceramic/terracotta?
And of course, they have bedding tons deeper than usual. This was accidental but they definitely don't mind. And they've got their wheel!

You could make a TP tube maze and bury it a little.

I have these things that my mice like to climb in and out of.

I think someone shared this idea in another thread before. You could cut a piece of cardboard or egg carton or whatever to fit over the opening and hide some treats in it.

Could I add cardboard to the cage while they're being treated?? Is it just the old toys that needed removing?
I have a paper-towel tube right now, actually. I've been saving it.

You can add cardboard! You can spray it with the Ivermectin and let it dry completely if you're worried. That's what the admin on the old forum advised the first time I had to treat mice. Smile

Edit: I can't remember what the Ivermectin page says not to use, but I think it's kind of overboard unless you're really really infested. Toys that you can wash are easiest because you dont have to worry about rebuilding them, but you can just toss cardboard.

PVC is toxic when ingested, so avoid PVC pipes!

In my opinion, metal mesh is okay for use in a play bin, but not the mouse's full-time housing. Metals are potent minerals that can be absorbed by when chewed. My mice have three of the black epoxy-coated metal desk accessories and one plain silver-coloured that I use in rotation in their playgrounds. They are a lot of fun.

I guess it would depend on the type of metal though. I mean some metals have low reactivity so would be safe - e.g. stainless steel is often used for pet food bowls.
