Wounds in both ears

My brindle Millie is over a year old now, and for the last couple months she's had a scratch inside her ear that she keeps itching at. I was doing my best to treat it but even though I've had her for so long, she has never been tamed so it's extremely hard and stressful for both of us (I think I've only been able to hold her a few times over the whole year). I even switched her food and bedding back then to see if it was an allergy, but nothing worked. She's also insanely fat and no matter what I've never been able to control that either. Today I noticed that she's been scratching at her other ear, and her back as well. Her cagemate has none of these symptoms at all so I don't think it's mites or parasites.
Is there anything I can do to help her feel better? I can't afford a vet trip right now, so any suggestions about things I can do here at home would be helpful. She's a chunky old lady - I just hate seeing her so uncomfortable.

My mouse has some ear issues as well. I understand that exotic pet veterinary care is super expensive, my parents are only willing to pay for putting mice down if they are in severe pain. Try to keep your mouse as happy as possible, as long as she isn't in pain, just keep an eye on her.

Also look into Vetericyn+plus all-animal formula. You don't have to spray it on the wounds -- you can spray some on a cotton swab or other gentle applicator, and then dab it on the ear wounds. If mousie will let you, that is.

It's also helpful to engage a scratching mouse in new activities to see if distraction might stop at least some of the persistent scratching. Something as simple as letting Millie tag along with you while you do some things she normally doesn't get to attend might do the trick. If she's not a flight risk, she might just enjoy riding on your shoulder while you walk about the house or "do stuff" that doesn't present a danger to her.
