Re: Blue Tongue Skink?
Sorry to tell you, but a heat lamp is kind of a must. Reptiles can't warm themselves up like we can, so if the skink gets cold, he'll need some warm place to sit under. These skinks do not need to eat mice. So you are totally ok with not feeding mice, my dad has been raising healthy reptiles for years and has never purchased a single mouse for food. They will need SuperWorms daily, not sure exactly how much, I'll ask my dad when he is home. And dog food should always be available for them. Occasional fruits and veggies are also suggested. My dad has had a room full of reptiles since before I was born, all the cages have heating lamps except one, and we've never had a fire. Just make sure it's set up properly and you're good.

Ah ha! Just found the perfect website, here is their diet: http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Care-Sheets/Lizards/Blue-Tongue-Skink/ . Pinky mice are on that list, but you don't have to feed them pinky mice. It's more of a thing just to get good protein and vitamins into their diet, just like giving a mouse a mealworm, there are alternative ways to get protein into their diet, like boiled eggs. My dad feeds his SuperWorms, many kinds of fruit, lettuce, carrots, dry dog food, earth worms, wet canned cat food, and boiled eggs. I asked him and he said he doesn't really have an exact number of SuperWorms, just make sure you give them some daily.

If it makes it easier for you about the habitat problem, I can take some pictures of my dad's setup. It's rather simple and was done on a small budget but it works!

I went out and bought a heat bulb and a "sunlight" bulb. (I have no idea what they are called ) I also got some plants. Anonymous, could you take a picture? It would help me a lot!

Re: Blue Tongue Skink?
My dad says it could also vary by the kind of blue tongue skink you are purchasing, he has an Irain Jaya. There are lots of different kinds, but the care for each type should only vary slightly. You may want to research different types and their needs. Ok, so now the pictures! Again sorry if the pictures are large, as I don't know how to resize. I put captions on the pictures for you .

Thanks Anonymous! That helps a bunch! I think I'm going to get a Northern, which I think is the biggest type! I'll have my hands full, but I'm sure having a skink will be very rewarding.
Edit: Anonymous, can you ask your dad how big and how deep the water dish is?

Re: Blue Tongue Skink?
Hey, how's it going? Did you end up getting one?
Edit: Sorry didn't see your last question! It's about a foot wide I'd say.
