It doesn't have to be those brands. Those are just ones that fit most of the guidelines, are usually easy to find (in the U.S.), and what many members find works well for their mice. If you check out the Mouse Diet thread it goes over some suggestions on what to look for in a commercial mix. Then you can compare brands and decide for yourself which will work best for your mice.
